Green hydrogen, is expected to be one of the significant renewable energy sources for residential uses, transportation, and industry. Among the methods for producing hydrogen, using PEM electrolyzers along with photovoltaic panels stands out. To avoid hydrogen storage and achieve decarbonization, injecting hydrogen into the natural gas pipeline presents a highly effective solution. In this study, the injection of hydrogen into the gas pipeline is examined. To ensure that the injected hydrogen volume remains below 10% of the natural gas flow, a production rate of 20.69mol/s of hydrogen is required. To generate this hydrogen, the number of 3,230cells with 2,500cm2 should be utilized at a current density of 0.5A/cm2. The hydrogen pressure for injection into the pipeline is set at 17.23bar. To achieve this pressure, a 1,600cell electrochemical compressor with 2,500cm2 at 1A/cm2 is employed. The power consumption of electrolyzer and compressor for injecting 9.5% hydrogen on June 3 (maximum solar radiation in Isfahan) amounts to 6.64MW. To generate this power, a photovoltaic consisting of 12,991 STP550S-C72/Vmh panels is required. Given that the pressure of the electrolyzer aligns with the required pipeline pressure of 17.23bar, the compressor can be eliminated in favor of using a higher-pressure electrolyzer. Increasing the pressure results in higher power consumption of the electrolyzer and a reduction in its energy efficiency.
