This study focuses on the performance of a vehicle's gearbox under varying conditions of torque and load, specifically examining the effects of a sudden torsional torque of 150 N.m at the input shaft. The research aims to analyze the geometric changes in gear teeth and assess their strength by applying repeated loads, increasing up to 400 N.m. A specialized torsional strength test system was developed to facilitate this investigation, utilizing advanced software for precision control.
Experimental tests were conducted to measure the torque values on the gearbox's input shaft while in the 1st and reverse gear positions, simulating hydrostatic resistant load conditions. The methodology included a gap analysis to compare the micro-geometric parameters of the gears before and after the loading process, using a dedicated gear geometry measuring device. This approach allowed for a detailed examination of the gear's structural integrity under stress. The findings revealed that the gear profile remained unchanged up to a torque of 310 N.m, indicating a robust design under normal operating conditions. However, upon reaching a torque of 385 N.m, signs of plastic deformation were observed in the gear teeth, with an average deviation of 4% in tolerance compared to pre-loading conditions. This highlights the critical limits of gear performance and the importance of understanding material behavior under extreme loading scenarios.
